How the West Was Once…. 

….is the experience our ranch offers people who were born too late to have known the old West – a place of true hospitality, hearty home cooked meals, adventuresome people, and good, honest ranch horses on which you can explore some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes you have ever seen. 

Grapevine Canyon Ranch is nestled in a hidden canyon in the rugged Dragoon Mountains of s.e. Arizona, a one time favorite hide out of the Chiricahua Apaches, Chief Cochise, war leader Geronimo, many outlaws and a few hardy early settlers.  When we decided to open it to outside visitors in the 1980’s, we wanted above all to share the romance, the history, and the beauty of the mountains with others.  We were successful – people have come here from all over the world, many of them in order to live the cowboy and Indian stories of their youth.  They ride on old Indian trails, help us with our weekly cattle work, and take part in the thrice yearly round up. We share with them the lore of old Fort Bowie ruins in the Chiricahua Mountains across the valley, and the staggering beauty of the Chiricahua National Monument’s Wonderland of Rocks.  

Our guests return again and again, as witness our Grapevine Repeater Gang for three visits or more, and the Grapevine Six Shooter Club for those of six visits or over.  A couple of our Belgian guests summed it up best when they wrote “As children we dreamed it, as adults we lived it at Grapevine Canyon Ranch.”
